Ireland had tho advantage in tho first few rounds, but then appeared to tire, and Murphy got in.heavy faoe and body work. Tho referee gavo the verdict for Murphy, who had fought a fine defensive battle, amidst great cheering. Three minor amateur events were got off as curtain-raisers. \V. Ireland (Waipawa) defeated A. L. Tressider (Masterton). D. Cadwallado (Carterton) drew with J. Smith (Petone). E. CoJlorton (Tenui) proved too good for D. Knapp (Pahiatua).
