Lately a number of Opposition membeais in tho Houso of Repirosontiativcs havo cultivated- quite a habit of decrying tlio appointment of Mr. Royd Garlick as Director of Physical Education at every S>ssible .opportunity.' Yesterday the oil. A. L. Tho committee to consist of Mr. Guthrie, Mr. Malcolm, Mr. E, Newman, Mr. 'Poland, JLr. Sidey, 'Mr. Statham, Mr. J. C. Thomson, Mr. G. M. Thomson, Mr. Y'Oitch, and the mover." Sonne' questions addressed to tho Hon. Jas. All«m_ figured on th'o Order Paper yesterday in reference to Mr. GarJick'a appointment. Mr. Russell asked whether the Minister knew that Mr. Royd Gar-' lick was still advertising himself in tho Wellington tramears "for physical culture and tho curing of deformities" at an aildress in Wellington; and. if so, whether this was being dote with tho. approval of the Minister. ' Mir. Allen repliedTho terms, of Mr. Gariick's engagement specify that he is not to engage -in any otlier occupation than that of his office, and generatlv lie is bound by tli» regulations of tho Public Service. A scliool of physical culture called "The Royd Garlick Soliool" i.s still carried on, but iit ia undier tho rata direction and management of Mrs. Royd Garlick. There is, I believe, an old advertisement (u.inli?t a yearly contract) not yet, obliterated in two of tho Wellington tramcars, but instructions have been given to have this altered.' AiU tlie new advertisements are framed iD ■accordance with wlmt I ha've stated. To a question by Mr. Is-itt, the MinWer Teplied thnt it was not true that Mr. • Royd Gaxlick was pi-epating a book on physical culture to be mwWttl by cither teachers or ptipils under his instruction. The Education Department bad . ordered for distribution to teaches 3000 copies of a book issued br the English Board of Education—i.e., Education Department.'
