THE HUTT CLUB'S MEETING,
The tenth annual meeting of the Hutt Bowling and Tennis Club was held tins week, Mr. C. Hollard being in tho chair. The annual report and balance-sheet was adopted. The election bf ofheers resulted as follows: —l'atron, Mr. J. Duthie, president, M'r. W. Callender; vice-presi-dents Messrs. A. Macaskill, C. H. lreadwelL and E. i\ Bishworth; secretary. Ilollard, Macaskill. Trevcthick; Wednesday Match Committee, .Messrs. Hendry, Hodgms, and Ginger; delegate to. Northern Howling •Vssociation, Mr. W. Hendry; delegates to Wellington Centre, Messrs. Allport and Jiirch.
SEATOUN CLUB'S REPORT. The first annual report of tho Seatoun Bowling and 'tenuis (Jl&b suites that tho tenuis courts were used lor tho first tuno early in January, and the opening ceremony was performed on January 25 by Mr. W. H. U. Hell. M.l'. The green (sown on October 15) was opened on January 25, when it was iound that, tor young turf, it played very well. Ihe active nteuibersnip stands at 94, there being 52 tennis players, iO bowlers, and 22 croquet players. Tennis: Ihe courts liavo bssti playing well. arc popular. Several friendly games have been played with other clubs, in which tho club's representatives have been successful. A club handicap resulted in wins for Miss duller in the ladies' singles: Mr. I. J. De Hose, men's singles; Messrs. h. h. Berlin and A. G. AViiiiams, men s doubles and Miss Salmon and Mr. A. &. Williams in the combined doubles. Ihe courts will receive attention before tho spring. Bowling: Through making such a late commencement, this game was not taken up fully. Several promising colts Jiavo been discovered, and the new players are indebted to the old hands for coachmg. Tlie green has been chemically treated and top-dressed, and promises to be in excellent condition during the coining season. In this connection tho directors were enabled to retain the services .of Mr. O. T. Crawford as caretaker, iiowler» have to thank Jlrs. Wyatt and jsie£>rs. M'iiiiT and Bradley for trophies. Mr. Bradley's -pipes" were won outright ill .Vfldicup singles by It. J. Wyatt. Ihe "jl'Uirr Stars" and "Wyntt i'innacles, for full rink and pairs respectively, changed hands several times, ami are now held by J. Alexander, H. J._\\yatt, h. Vance, and W. I'. M'Girr_(skip), aud H. Cramond and S. Hill (skip). Croquet: The third tennis court laid down in grass has been availed of by tho Ladies' Croquet Club. A trophy presented by Mrs. Magill was won by Mrs. Berry and Mrs. Wyatt for pairs play. The ground has been relaid, and will be again used for croquet during the ensuing season. Iho Croquet Club having furnished tho sum of £"10 towards putting tho ground in order. Ladies' Committee: Members have an energetic Ladies' Committee, which during the season carried out the arrangements for dispensing afternoon tea. With tlra profits, the ladies installed a gas cooker and water service, and purchased a supply of crockery. At Laster time the ladies carricd through -a carnival to raise funds for a larger croquet ground. A profit of .£27 resulted. Pavilion: There is an overdraft of ,£S4 Is. Id. This is owing to the erection cf the pavilion. The need of some such building was so urgent that Messrs. Green and Smith guaranteed an overdraft at the bank of .£IOO, and four others took up five fully-paid shares each. The directors liopa to see this item considerably reduced during tho coming year. The club now has a serviceable building, which should be sufficient for some years. 'IV thanks of the club are due to Mr. Smith for installing electric light tree of cost, and to Mr. Cooper for a gift of chairs for the committee room. A ballot of shareholders taken on March ..'ll on tho question of allowing Sunday play, resulted in a majority in favour ot the Leave of absence has been •'ranted to Mr. Stephens on account of illhealth. lie hopes to return early next season The club owes it thanks to Messrs. A. D. Crawford, R. K. Bennett, ami others for ssrvicrs in connection with the construction work, and io several oi the older ciubs lor assistance in its early dav>.
