AFTER OIL
LIST OF THE COMPANIES, At 110 period in the history of tho in-*' dustry (says Mr. J. 1). Henry in a report' written oil July ;i) has so much important! work been dono in a single year. i\ot only , Iras tho refinery been c-rectcil, but a lium-; her of companies have been formed, and' five new wells started—three at Moturoaj and two at Bell Bled;. In the event of one of these new wells giong into oil dur-j ing the next few months there will be a; full , exploitation of tho Jloturoa field, 1 mid drilling work will become general; over surrounding tracts of supposed oil- ! bearing territory. It can be claimed that the enterprise shown by the company inj tho erection of the refinery has been I chiefly responsible fi>r the increased in-j vestment of capital in the industry and) also for the feeling of coniidenca display-! cd by many shareholders in the iiiltiniata success of both tho nrodueing and rcfini)<g! branches of the industry. _ _ ■ Obviously companies operating ill tho New Plymouth fields have mutual inter-; ests, and it is satisfactory to find that) work is proceeding in a spirit of friendly; competition not always displayed in ue\v : oil fields in other parts of tho world.' As this company owns (he only refinery, in the Dominion, indeed tho only ono south of the Line, the directors and shareholders are indirectly interested in iho operations of other concerns, it being understood that they will handle tho pro-, ducfion of the Jloturoa. and oilier fields' in Taranaki. To show tho extent of; prospective* operations. I give a following list of companies interested in local oil! field development work:— 1. Taranaki (N.Z.) Oil Wells, Ltd.— Successors to the Taranaki Petroleum'! Co., Ltd. Proprietors of the refinery, producing veils at MoliiToa. and lieuwells now being drilled at Dell Blocl»> and Wuitara West. 2. Bonithon Co.— A reorganisation of the former Boni-, thon Co., which put down a well on the Bonithon property, about midway between the centre of Now Plymouth and
