FILMS FOR SCHOOL WORK.
SERIOUSLY DISCUSSED. At tho /Education Hoard yesterday, (lis chairman (Mr. It. Lee) reported that a cainj):uiy wliicli had impoil-ed a kincmutcscopo inaicli inc was wilt in;; to give mi exhibition for tho Ixnofit of tho board. The chairman understood that tho cost of tho machine ranged from -iff to £25, but tho films wero expensive, existing alxmt JIU for two films. Some of fho subjects—lie would not fay all—wore quito suitable for school purposes, _ for lighter work, lie was not in a position to make any deiinife recommendation, but he thought; that Ihu timo was coming when films for school work would ho useful. At present, as far as ho knew, there was no firm which laid itself out to produce films iof educative value, .suitable for school work. Tho films and machines had, however, proved of value in raising funds for school committees, for libraries, etc., and if school committees found that they could have tho use of a machine they would, no doubt, be pleased to contribute towards the cost. All things considered, ho thought that there wns scope for such a machine. It was n matter, however, which would have to be discussed by tho school committees, and teachers. On tho motion of Mr. .T. G. W, Aitken, it was decided to ask the importers o; tha niachino to give an exhibition before members of the board, and as many school committees and teachers as could attend.
