Cable advice has been received by the local agents for the F. and S. Lino stating that the Morayshire cleared Liverpool for Hobart, Auckland, a"nd Wellington, on Saturday, July 26. The vessel is due at Wellington on September 29. ATHENIO ARRIVES AT PLYMOUTH. En rout-o from Wellington to London, the Shaw-Savill steamer Athenic arrived at Plymouth'on Friday. July 25. The liner left Wellington on Juno 12. and was duo at her destination on Sunday last. AOItANGI'S CARGO. The Union Company's Aorangi, which is due at Wellinton from San Fraucisco on August U, lrafl 21 passengers on board for this port, whiist'3s passengers have booked through to Sydney. The Union Company's steamer Makura. which arrived at Vancouver from Auckland at 6 p.m. 011 Wednesday last, is cx* pccted to leave on the return fcrip on August 6. .She is due at Auckland on August 26. A steamer named tlie African Monarch left Hakodate (Japan) on July 8 with a full load of superphosphates and sulphur for Auckland, and other Now Zealand porta. She is due at Auckland about August 5. The Union Company's Corinna is to load at Wellington on Thursday for Nelson, New Plymouth, Picton, aud Onchuuga. . An expected arrival in port from London, via Auckland xi.nd Napier, to-day is tho Tyeer liner Star of Australia It is anticipated that she will tret away for couth on Friday. Tho Tyser liner Wliakarua, which left London on July 23 for Wellington, via way ports, is due here about September 30. It is expected that the British Imperial Oil Company's chartered steamer Havre will have put out her 27,000 eases of uhcll oil at Wellington in time to permit of her leaving for Napier on Thursday. She will discharge 65C0 cases of oil at Napier before going on to Sydney. As previously announced, there will be no direct steamer from Sydney to Wellington thi6 week, on account of tho Willochra having been withdrawn. In consequence of the gap thus created, there will be no sailing from Wellington for Melbourne, via southern ports and Hobnrt, on Thursday. . Weather reports received from Greymouth yesterday indicated bad weather off the bar. Tho *Sbaw-Savill steamer Ktimara will remain at Port Chalmers till August 16. when sho will leave tor Timaru, Auckland, and Wellington. She sails for Loudon on September S. Arahura, West. Coast packet, arrived off the Grey Bar from Westnort yesterday morning, but could not croFs inwards on account of bad weather. ASTRONOMICAL, CHRONOMETER RATING NOTICE. Hector Observatory, Wellington.—Tlio position of the Hector Observatory ib aa follows:— Latitude, 41dee. 17mln. 3.765 cc. South. Longitude, 11 hours 39min. 4.275ec. East of Greenwich. Height, abovo 1909 mean wa level, 418 foot. Chronometer Rating Notice—At 1 p.m. to-day a galvanometer tignal for ratinsr chronometers will be sent from the Observatory to the Public Telegraph Offlco and to the Dominion Museum. The needlo will move at 1 p.m. exactly of New Zealand Btandard mean time, when n chronometer set to Greenwich mean time Bhould show 13 hours 30min. Any dilferenco will be the error of the chronometer on Greenwich mean time. At 9 p.m. correct time will alr-o be signalled from the Observatory by means of electric lights. A green light will bo switched on at about P. 45 p.m., a red ono at about 0.55 p.m., and a white one at about 8.59 p.m., aud all lights will bo switched off at 9 p.m. exactly of New Zealand standard mean time. The preparatory switching on of the' lights must bo aonsidered as only approximately correct, and must not bo used for- rating chronometers.
