PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the Petone Borough Council wa6 held last evening. Present: Tlio Mayor-(Mr. J. W. M'Ewan), Councillors List, Cos, Brocklebank, Townsend, Jones, Findlay, Trueman, and Anderson. Correspondence was dealt with as follows:— From Petone Fire Board, applying for return of deposit of .£IOO, received. From Hutt Park Committee, asking for payment of ,£2O on account of tliis year's subsidy.—Decided to forward cheque. From the captain of the Star Boating Club, stating that it might bo advisable for lids club to 'have a branch shed at Potone, and inquiring what sites wero available, and the terms of lease.—Referred to the engineer for a report. From Gaulter, Dykes and Co., forwarding clrequo for .£63 9s. Bd. for drainage on Cooper Estate, and asking that tho plan be sealed.—lt was Tesolved to inform tho writers that tho council could not accede to the request ro plan until a sum of .£SO had been forwarded for certain work which it was estimated would have to be done. From the Hutt Borough Council, stating its delegates to the Hutt Park Committee would refer to the question of obtaining power from Parliament to allow horse training on the Park, and asking tho council's support—lt was decided to take joint action with Hutt. From Hutt Council, regarding a lagoon in the Hutt River, ana desiring local bodies to combine to clear the channel in this lagoou, otherwise the backing up of stagnant water might prove detrimental to health. It decided to co-operate, and to suggest that a small committee of local bodies be appointed in conjunction with their respective engineers to deal with the matter and report. A copy of the Architects' Bill re architects, aTld a letter drawing attention to Clause 8, was received from Mr. Wilford, M.P., and was referred to tho engineer.— It was decided to thank Mr. Wilford for the letter. The Recreation Ground Committee reported having considered tho application of tho Pelone Cricket Club for three pitches, and recommended a charge of JJS per season per pitch for No. 1 ground, and that JC2 per season be charged for other parts of tho ground.—Adopted. Before the ordinary business began, tho Mayor asked if Councillor Findlay liad any communication to make to tho council. Councillor Findlay: What for? The Mayor: Regarding happened at a previous meeting. Councillor Findlay pointed out that no minute of the matter had been recorded, and Clause G2 of the standing orders would not allow him to say anything. The 'Mayor remarked that the matter was clear enough, and Councillor Findlay know it. ' Councillor Anderson remarked something about, "taking lio notico of the standing orders." ' The Mavor:. Will Councillor Anderson please withdraw that remark that the Mayor refused to obey standing orders. Councillor Anderson.: No, sir! The Mnvor: I'll ask the clerk to take that down. I'll not allow tho council to be turned into a bear garden for anyone. Later, Councillor Findlay withdrew the words complained of at a previous meeting.
