MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
BROUGHT OFF THE SYDNEY BOAT. Saturday's sitting of the Magistrate's Court was presided over by Mr. W. G. lliddell, S.M. Lawrence W. Taylor was charged with failing to provide his wife with adequate maintenance. Chief-Detective Broberg asked that defendant bo remanded to appear at Auckland on Monday. He stated that Taylor had been arrested on tho Sydney boat, a quarter of an hour before it sailed on Friday last. Mr. H. F. O'Lcary, who appeared for defendant, opposed the application, but asked for a remand until Tuesday. Counsel mentioned that his cliont was an Aucklander, who had just sold his farm and this had realised about JB9OO. Taylor had left his wife .£SO for maintenance during the time that he would be away in Sydney. His Worship remanded defendant until Tuesday, bail being allowed! in tho sum of ,£l5O or two sureties of J875 each. OTHER COURT OASES. Douglas Roy Bailey was ordered to pay Jessie Mabel Bailey a sum of 255. per week, in respect to maintenance. Mary Clarke, Elizabeth Brady, and Kathleen Von Cant were each deemed to be idle and disorderly persons, who consorted with reputod prostitutes. Mary Clark was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon; ElizaLeth Brady was sent _to tho Salvation Armv Home for a period of six months; and Kathleen Von Cant was convicted and made the subject of a prohibition order. John Donohue, who was deemed to bo a rogue and a vagabond, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. For insobriety, Henry Greenfield was fined 205., Thomas Gardiner 40s, Oscar Larseu 10s., and Bernard ICromer 40s. For using certain objectionable language George M'Farlane was fined .£3, and costs Bs., in default 14 days' imprisonment.
