DETECTIVE SHOT IN ARM.
THE LYTTGLTON CASE. (Br ToleEranb.—Frew Ajitootation.l Chrlstchurch, July 27, Acting-Detective M. Carney, who wac shot under tho left arm whilo effecting an arrest at Lyttelton yesterday afternoon, passed a fairly good niglit in tho Chrlstchurch Hospital.' Tho bullot was located by an X-ray examination, but the. patient was not operated on to-day, lit is probable, however, that an opera-l Hon for tho removal of tho bullet will be performed to-morrow. In tlio meantime Acting-Detective Carney's condition is quite satisfactory, and no serious re* suits are anticipated. His assailant, Wilfred Edward Harper, was charged with' discharging a firearm with intent to murdor, and was remanded till Augu6t lu
