(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Wanganul, July 26. Tiis committee of the Wanganui Orphanage haa for a considerable time been in want of money to enable them to build a new home. The greater part of the money necessary is now in hand, bait anothir .£IOOO is required. An application to the Government for a grant was refused, and the committee found itself faced with a "poser." ■ At the annual meeting yesterdav, however, the chairman (Mr. W. J. Treadwell) announced that eight friends of the institution had Riven donations amounting to .£l5O, and he suggested that mi appeal should be made to the . pliilanthropically inclined. He suggested that ten persons should te asked to'lend the committee .£IOO apiece for not more than ten years, free of interest. The result of the chairman s idea was that to-day five persons came forward with offers, and it is believed that there is every prospect of tho balance being forthcoming in a day or two.
