The newspapers in various parts of the Dominion criticise as rather humiliating the gratification expressed by the Australian press regarding the proposal of the United States to station part of its fleet on the Pacific Coast. The Conservative decline to consider such gratification seriously, holding that the Empire is still well able to protect its own interests anywhere. The Toronto "Globe" announces that the Canadian Government is considering a scheme for establishing coast defences on the Pacific and Atlantic, the naval auxiliaries being tho proposed gift Dreadnoughts. • ..._ General, Sir lan Hamilton (InspectorGeneral of the Overseas Forces) is engaged upon a report to the Government on the question.
