LYALL BAY.

TIIAM EXTENSION WANTED. A deputation of Lyall Bay resident* waited upon tho City Council last night to ask for an extension of tho tramway system at Lyall Bay; better facilities for residents scouring seats in Lyall Bay trains from town during 5 p.lll. and G p.m., and assistance in getting a hose-reel station in the district. The deputation was introduced by Councillor G. Frost, and the first speaker was Mr. J. I!. Stansell, who urged the extension of the service to make the terminus at Kui\ Street. The present terminus, 110 said, was the most exposed in the district, and was swept by both prevailing winds. Visitors alighting from the ears were struck by tho lull forco of the wind, and frequently returned to town at once, and so got a wrong impression of the district. Ho understood that the engineer had prepared plans for a loop-line over the proposed route. The Mayor: Thorp are a lot of visionary tilings, projected. Mr. Stansell, proceeding, said that the short extension asked for would give satisfaction to the wholo of the residents, and would cause increased population. A petition asking for tho extension which lie had with him, waa signed by nearly. 400 residents, and they had only met two objectors. Mr. Stansell referred to the "crush hour," between 5 and G p.m., which resulted in many Lyall Bay passengers being shut out of Lyall Bay cars l)y passengers only going as far as Conrtonay Place. They asked that some system cf minimum fares or special cars for Lyall Bay should be put on. Facilities for securing a hose-reel station for a volunteer fire brigade were also asked. 111 reply, the Mayor said that tho matters would be carefully considered by the respective committees. With regard lo the volunteer fire brigade, he felt dure the council would only be too pleased to meet Lyall Bay residents in any way.
