Arthur Newton, the well-known solicitor, and Berkeley Bennett have been found guilty of the misappropriation of moneys, belonging to IIan? Thosch. Newton has been sentenced to thiee years' imprisonment «ud Bennett to eighteen months. Newton and Bennett, an undischarged bankrupt, of Half Moon Street, were charged with defrauding Hans Thosch of ,£23,000. Newton was further charged with misappropriating the sum of .£3OO in connection with a fine imposed on a ran named Mackay, but was acquitted. 'J'hosch gave evidence that he was induced to invest .£14,500 in Mauchurian Concessions, Ltd. lie had not received any return. Subsequently Newton and others persuaded him to invest .£IO,OOO in alleged land and timber concessions in Canada.
