THEOSOPHICAL SOCIETY.

Last night, at the rooms of the Tlieosophical Society, Mr. J. R. Thomson delivered the first of a series of mid-week lectures, entitled "Three Ways. to God: The Way of Action." The lecturer stated that there were four distinct types of humanity—(a) the philosophic, (b) the scientific, (c) the dbvotional, and (d) the active, or motive, temperament. He went oil to pay tliat all of these, 'types-must rendi tho goal of human attainment by one of three routes, i.e., the path of action, the path of wisdom, or the path of devotion. By whichever way the aspirant wnnt he would be able to realise consciously his own divinity. The pursuit of objects of {Wise and tlio acquirement of wealth and power was that best suited to develop the faculties of tho man'of action, while study and deep philosophic thought found its consummation' in wisdom. The cultivation of the artistic faculties and 'higher emotions ware the fmits cf. devotion. The scientific type developed its faculties largely throw,li exercising tho mind in the domain of psychics. All these powers when gained Were to be laid on the altar of lmmanitv; all were to be held in stewardship for the race. Many interesting questions were asked and answered, bringing an interesting nreting to a close. Future lectures will he announced.
