ANOTHER BOAT HARBOUR.
"Wanted for Petone: A boat harbour," was the plea of a deputation of representatives of the Petone Borough Council and the Herptaunga Boating Club which waited on the Wellington Harbour Beard lasb night. Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P. for Hutt, was tile chief speaker among the deputatiouists. He said that the question was an old one and had previously been turned down ou the score of expense. It was suggested that the boat harbour should be in the vicinity of Koro-Koro. Ho understood that the estimated cost was ,£ISOO, 5 per cent interest on which would be .£75. Though there might not bo at the start more than half enough boats to pay the interest, possibly in the near future the number of boats would increase sufficient to cover. the interest on the outlay. If the board felt that J21500 was too much, perhaps, it would say how far it would go. "Jf you cannot do tho whole lot, will you do half? If you cannot do half, we will have to abandon the whole scheme," -hu concluded.
C'ouucillor Findlay, of Petone Borough Council, said that he thought the Petone Borough Council would be prepared to sharp the burden of the undertaking, lie thought that if the Harbour Board would stand half the cost, the Petone Borough Council and the Boating Club would guarantee the other half. Tho board decided, on the motion of Mr. if.. Fletcher, to refer tho matter to the Wharves and Accounts Committee, and to ask the committee to report to tho next meeting of the board.
