NOVEL SCHEME FOR PREVENTION. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, July 23. Giving evidence before a Commission, of Inquiry regarding the working of the industrial laws, Mr. Hughes, a director of the Colonial Meat Company, submitted a sch'cine to prevent strike losses. Ho suggested that 10 per cent, be deducted from the wages of employees until tho deductions were equivalent to two months' pay each. This would be banked at 4 per cent, interest, the employer to. add 6 per cent, interest thereto, the moneys to be available for investment with approved employers, who would [ay 10 per cent, interest thereon. If at tho end of eighteen months any sum held on deposit exceeded one month's wages, tho balance to be returned to the employee, with full accrued interest, provided ho had not participated in, a strike during that period; but if he had participated in a strike the deposit to be forfeited and applied to make up any loss sustained by tho employer.
