EAST COAST RAILWAY.
(Br Telacranh.—Press Association.) ( Tauranga, July' 23. A general meeting of tiie Tauranga Eailway League last night passed the following resolution: "That this meeting of members of the Tauranga Eailway League and representatives of :the Tauranga Borough Council/ Tauranga Chamber of Commerce, Katikati Eailway League, and the general public of the borough and district of Tauranga, hereby expresses to the Government its firm recognition of the following facts:—(l) That the construction of the East Coast railway is a work of the first importance; (2) that its construction as such was'started by the previous Administration at certain advantageous points, with a -view to bringing it to a beneficial and profitable use as early as possible; (3) that it should bo so carried on by the present Government for the above reasons. Therefore tho meeting urges the Government to provide on the Estimates this session liberal votes not only to carry forward the portions of tho line now under construction, but also to' resume work on the already authorised section westward through Tauranga towards Tfciihi and eastward! t from Waihi towards Tauranga, upon which work was stopped last year, those sections being also absolutely essential to the unity and utilitarian ' purposes of this national undertaking.' 1 . Another resolution was also earned: "That the foregoing resolution be printed, and copies forwarded to the Prime Minister, tho Minister for public Works, tho Minister for 'Railways, all membars of Parliament, the I'ress, and all local bodies and Eailway Leagues directly interested in the East Coast railway."
