In the House of Commons, Mr. Augustine Birrell (Chief Secretary for Ireland), in introducing tho Irish Land Purchase* Bill, said that the total expenditure in connection with Irish lands was at present over ,£100,000,000, and ho estimated that a further would be required, provided for by advances of half in cash and half in stock. Ho hoped that the purchase would be completed in ten or fifteen years. An additional million would be needed for labourers' cottages.
