LOWER COURT. PEOPLES' MILK & ITS CONTENTS. COMPANY FINED. Allegations of having an undue amount of water in milk wero made against soveral milk vendors, in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., was on the Bench. Two of these charces wcro against tho Wellington Dairy Company, who wero lined Jlil, with costs £1 IBs. Gil. on ono count, while the other, caso was (on tho suggestion of Mr. Myers, counsel for the defendant company) adjourned sine die, to permit of an independent analysis of tho milk sample being made by Professor Easterfield. On similar charges, A. Wardle was fined, JBI, with costs iSI 18s. (id., and Henry Charles Frandi was fined X'i, with costs .£1 18s. 6d.

HIS CALL ON SUNDAY. A charge of having unlawfully sold beej on a Sunday was made against Daniel Thomas M'Carthy. an employee at tho Royal Tiger Hotel. The facts were stated to be that on a Saturday night a womah who worked at the Royal Tiger paid for a bottle of beer, which her husband was to call for later in the evening. The man did not call -that night—he did not know that the beer awaited him—but on tho following day he called at the hotel to inquire health of his child." Ho was then told that there was a bottle, there for him, and that evening he was about to take it away when the police entered. Inspector Hendroy, who represented the police, and Mr. T. M. Wilfoi-d, counsel for the defendant, referred the Court to oertain authorities bearing on the case, and decision was reserved. FAMILY AFFAIRS. Mary Alexander was granted separation and maintenance orders against Robert Alexander. Ernest Edward Napier was ordered to pay 2s. per week towards the support of his sister. For disobedience of maintenance orders. William Lim was fined .£2, and Jesse Harlin was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. DRINK CASES. For insobriety, Susan M'Laughlin was fined 10s., Florence M'Anally £2, Patrick Shannon 10s., Bruce Hl'Landeis, JSI, (Jibson Jl'Kay £1, Robert Anderson 10s., Martin Samuelson J-2, and John Driscoll 17s. 6d. (expenses). ' For having broken prohibition ordotts, I Alexander M'Donald was fined £'i, Edward Mohan' (three charges; £o, Alexander Pattie ,£3, and William Patteson .£3.

BY-LAWS BROKEN. John Reginald Welsby was charged with.: (1) Having had an unlicensed vehicle plying for hire, (2) having acted as the driver of an unlicensed vehicle plying for hire, and (3) having failed to have his number painted on the vehicle. He was fined <£1, with costs. Patrick Cavanagh appeared to answer a charge of having permitted two cows to wander at large. He was fined £2, with costs £2 13s, THEFT CHARGES. .Robert Herbert Scott was accused of having broken and entered the dwelling of Frederick Johns and stolen a suit valued at .£5 103. >Ho was remanded,till July 23. For having stolen pairs of boots belonging to James William Martin, Alexander Thompson was fined £2. OTHER MATTERS. A month's imprisonment was meted out to Jessie Jl'Ewan and Harry Osterberg, who were deemed to be rogues and vagabonds. , William CaTstin was ordered to appear for sentence when called 011 respecting a charge of his having assaulted Walter Weaver and Constable Thomas Shannon. Hu"h O'Connell and Ivauawa Wmnera were each fined on charges of their having committed-obsccno acts. For having used certain language, in public, John Thompson was fined i! 3.
