PROSECU"Tken, you are the ranger now," romarked Patrick Cavanagk to the Mayor of Onslow (Mr. Frank Holdsworth)' in tho Magistrate's Court yesterday, whero Cavanagh was being charged as tho person responsible for certain stock wfiich had been found wandering at large, "Not yet," replied Mr. Holdsworth. Haven't you got your knife into mo this last several years? Witness: No. Cavanagh: Since you and I camo into conflict on tho council, haven't you had your knifo into me? No answer. Cavanagh: Do you sit on your porch every morning watching your neighbours' cows ? Mr. Biddell: You need not answer that question, witness. H. E. Anderson, an Onslow resident, was tho next witness. Oavanagh: You are the man that said my boy shot your dog two years ago, aren't you? Witness: No. Cavanagh: Between you and Holdsworth, and Jackson (Mr. P. W. Jackson was appearing as solicitor for tho corporation) yon would havo tho last Ixib in my pocket. This is not prosecution, it if i>ersecution. Shortly aftorwards Cavanagh was fined, whereupon ho informed tho Court that he thought the fine might havo been lighter.
