OTAGO V. MAORI TEAM.
A DRAWN GAME. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Dutiedin, July 19. Tho match Otago v. the Maori team was played in perfect weather. Tho standard of play was not high, and tho result, a draw, fairly indicated the merits of the contending teams. The first half was very slow, and ended without any score, although a number of fruitless attempts were made to kick penalty goals. Early in the game, Eckhold received a kick on the face, and had to retire. The second spell opened quietly. Otago worked their way down- to tho Maoris' lino with n series of line-outs, but the visitors managed to clear, and carried play to tho Otago twenty-five, with a looso rush. Here their backs got going, and Tahiwi, cutting-in smartly, they were nearly over. A few moments later Harris put in a fine run, but was pulled down, after covering more than half the length of tho field. Tho game was now much livelier than in tliO first spell, and the Maoris were playing with considerable dash, and making more use of their backs. Once they were within an ace of scoring, but Otago rallied, and attacked holly, a force resulting. For the next few minutes the Maoris had the advantage of tho play, and at. one time appeared to have scored. Blake marked neatly right in front of Otago's goal, and Grace brought up the first score. The Maoris showed a disinclination to go down to the rushes of the Otago forwards, who rushed play inside tho visitors' twenty-five, and then sent the ball out to Harris, but the speody wing threcwas pulled down on the line. A little later Watson kicked a goal, making the score three all. Play continued fast and open, but the gamo ended with tho ecores: Maoris, three, Otaeo, three.
