LACROSSE.
[Bt Goal Umpire.] THE WEEK REVIEWED. The Gams at Its Best. Good weather again favoured lacrosseurs on Saturday, and owing to tlie football representative match on the Basin, the struggle for the Proud Cup was continued at Wakefield Park. The Kelburne-Columbia match was the star item of the day, and, from the first face-off the play became fast. From a spectacular point of view Jhe game was fascinating. The ball was kept ofE the ground, and some very fine passing-rushes were eifocted. The defence on both sides was good, and at half-time the score stood two all. On lesumiiig play the Blacks became aggressive, and two goals were notched in quick succession. At the beginning of the last spell condition began to tell, and the Blues were run off their reet, Columbia eventually winning by live goals to. two. Columbia have a good team, and with careful handling will stand a good chance' of becoming possessors of the coveted cup. For the winners, Fama, Leydon, and Grant, backed by Quinn, Baker, and O'Leary, played good games, showing capital combined play. Casey seems to have lost his old dash. He had a good opportunity on Saturday to show that he was master of his crosso, but on several occasions he missed scoring when a goal seemed certain. Wellington and Capitol. Of the Wellington-Capitol match there is not much to bo said, Wellington was outclassed from the commencement, being handicapped greatly by only having sis players on tho field, the old players being the only ones out. But they are good sports. They turn up every Saturday ■with a smile, coming out to win, but knowing very well that they will leave the ground defeated. At half-time tho score stood five to two in favour of Capitol, and, on resuming, the Greens began to 6core, and at tho end of. the game had notched about twelve goals to Wellington's three. For the winners, J. Eenkin, Hubbard, and Andrews attacked well, while Burge, Turner, and E. Eenkin did all the defending necessary. For Wellington, Bowen, Firth, Byder, and E. W. Leo played gamely, as did Eowntree, a promising young colt. Skipper Lee, as usual, defended very hard, but Wellington had not a hope, and, if the Greens had pushed harder, tliey could have made a greater score. Representative Team. A good selection has been made from which to pick the representatives, and "Goal Umpire" thinks that it is about timo that the representative team was chosen, as there is only another month before Auckland will be down. There docs not seem lo be any talk of the selected team playing an exhibition match against tho next best, but I think that this should bo done. It would give tho representative men a chance to get combination.
