» SUPERANNUATION BOARD. The quarterly meeting of the Public Service Superannuation Board was held on Thursday, July 10. A memorandum from the Public Service Commissioner relative to tho retirement of the secretary to the board (Mr. Amelius Smith), owing to the age limit, and suggesting that the Superannuation Office should be attached to a Department, and that the head of that Department should act as secretary, to the board, was considered. Tho matter was placed in the hands of a committee of the board to interview the Public Service Commissioner on tho subject. It was decided by the board to ask tho Government to amend the regulations so as to substitute February, May, August, and November, for the present dates on which the quarterly meetings of tho board are held. An application was received from an officer in the Government Insurance Department, asking that any officer who had completed his five years temporary service after Juno 30, 1908, should bo allowed to count the whole period for superannuation purposes. The board decided to take no action in the matter. The question of the rate of interest allowed by tho Public Trustee on tho fund's capital was fully considered by the board, and was held over pending a report on the whole matter of tho board's funds and their investment. On tho suggestion of the High Commissioner in London, it was agreed that he should pay retiring allowances to those residing in England on duo date, tho board to ';ccoup the Consolidated Fund later. Tho board, however, not to bo liable for any expense incurred by exchange or otherwise. A resolution was passed ~by the board expressing regret •on tho retirement of their secretary, Mr. Amelius M. Smith. The secretary informed tho board that the amount to tho credit of tho fund on Juno 30, 1913, was ,£494,509 13s. lid., not including accrued interest. The totals of retiring allowances and annuities to widows and children passed by tho board aro as follow, viz. : £ s. d. Ordinary and medically unfit, 27, representing £2,862 19 0 9 widows and 11 children 305 0 0 Tho Claims Committee were authorised to grant tho statutory allowances to widows and children as tho claims arise and report to the board. The question of calling upon various officers who had been retired as medically unfit to submit themselves to further medical examination was considered by tho board and approved.
