WOOTTON'S LIBEL CASE.
AGAINST THE "WINNING POST."
SOMETHING ABOUT LOMOND. By Telegraph.—Press Association— Copyright London, July 17. Further evidence was heard to-day in tho libel action which Wootton, the oxAustralian trainer, has brought against Bobort Siovier, publisher of the "Winning Post." J[r. E. Hultoa, a racehorso owner; gavo evidencte that ho liad told Siovier that his criticism of Wootton about Lomond's running was wrong. Witness, at tho outset, had permitted Wootton to try hi 9 horses against others, but owing to a good deal of unpleasant talk withdrew his permission. The stable had backed Lomond at Newmarket and for tlias Derby. Tho horse had appeared fit. Ho (witness) backed three otter non-winners in tho Derby. Ho had never had tho slightest ground to suspect Wootton or. his sons. (Rec. July ID, 0.20 a.m.) London, July 18. Dawson, a trainer, in his evidence, suggested, in reply to a question by tho Judge, that the lengthening of tho stirrup leathers might cure foul riding. Other evidence elicited the fact that hoTses sometimes took a dislike to certain riders, owing to the latter punishing them during their training. Another point raised was whether the public was entitled to information from owners regarding which of his hoTses were being merely' "run for practice," when they were only more or less fit to race.
