PUBLIC TRUST OFFICE.
COMMISSIONERS' REPORT. The Hon. A. L. Hcrdman laid upon the table of the House yesterday afternoon a report from tho Public Service Commissioners on the working of tho Public Trust Office. Tho report stated: "An inspection of the work of tho Public Trust Office has been completed by the Public Service Commissioners. The manner in which the work is organised and carried out in that Department is such that it is scarcely possible to praise too highly the officers concerned. The Commissioners were much impressed with tho keenness, enthusiasm, and personal interest which is being shown by practically every officer in every branch of the work. "The Commissioners have, of course, nothing to do with tho policy of the Department, which has been so recently and so fully dealt with by the MncintoshHosking Commission. The main difficulty about tho office is that sufficient foresight was not exercised in the past with regard to staff requirements. A considerable number of cadeft has recently been added to the staff,- and it is hoped that in tho courso of a few months the heavy work which has recently been performed bv officers will be reduced. There aro a few days in which shortening of office methods could bo adopted, which would be tho means of relieving tho strain which at present exists, which will also tend to efficiency and economy. These will be discussed with the head of the Department. It is a great pleasure to havo to mako such a satisfactory report on this important Department."
