VALLANCE COOK MISSION.
There was a large gathering yesterday afternoon at the meeting for women, addressed by the Rev. Vallanco C who is conducting a mission in the Wesley Church, Taranaki Street. Mr. Cook ■ spoke on. the subject of "Woman, Wife, Mother." ■ He referred to the tremendous possibilities for good and evil in the female nature, dwelt at length on the vastness and continuity of woman 9 influcnce, and declared that God and Nature intended every wife to be the angel of her home. He deprecated strongly \ the spirit of .'nagging, and gave instances ■'of the blessed results that follow consistency of life and patience under provoca- ' In the* evening an assembly of the Methodists was called for John Street,, at 7.80, and a large number who responded were led by the Central Mission Silver Band to the Mission Church, the Boys Band bringing up the rear. Within the !chuTch a large congregation listened to a searching address on "Personal Responsibility," based upon Romans, ch. 11, ,-verse 12. The fact of this personal re - ponsibility is evidenced, said the preacher, •in the general belief of human being 9, i the attitude of the conscience towards right and wrong, as also to the incident of death. A very solemn service was closed by an earnest appeal, to which a number responded. The services will be continued to-mor-tow with an afternoon Bible-reading and evangelistic service at» night.
