(By Telegraph—Pr«ss Association.) Pahiatua, July 17. Tlio third annual festival of the I'ahiatua Competitions Society was opened yesterday, and was a success. There were" over 200 entries—a record. - Competitors came from all parts of the Wellington province. Kesulls:—Prepared speech—Mrs. J. Cairns (Masterton), 1; J. W. Sturten (Ekotahuna), 2. Impromptu speech—D. 13. Anderson, 1; J. 1. Fox, 2. Musical monologue (Indies)— Miss Aitchwon (Kaitawa), 1; Miss A. Taylor and Miss L. Brown tied for second place. Recitation, ladies, liumoroins—Mrs. Cairns, 1; Miss I£. p. Miller, 2. Girls under 10—Hazel Jeffrey (Wellington), 1; Paula Shotlander, 2. B6ys under 12— J. Walsh, 1; C. Brown (Mangatainoka), 2. Boys under O—J. Walsh, 1; J. Bringans (Mnngamutu), 2. Girls under 9—Mario Kelly (Konini), 1; Mavis Smith (Man;,'amutii), 2.
