SUPREME COURT.
BLENHEIM BANKRUPTCY CASE. ' J FATHER & SON. His Honour the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) presided at a sitting' of the Supreme Court which was held yesterday afternoon. The business was a motion for the discharge from bankruptcy of Victor L. Powell, dentist, of Blenheim. Mr. C. B. Morison, K.C., with whom was Mr. R. M. Watson, appeared in support of the motion; and Mr. S. P. M'Nab, of Blenheim, represented certain creditors, who opposed the motion. It appeared . from the statements of counsel that some time ago bankrupt's father was a dentist in business at Blenheim. He handed over the business to the son on the understanding that tho son should provide the parents with an annuity. This was embodied in an agreement, but after a while , the 6on got in arrears with his monthly payments. This he attributed to a falling off in the business receipts through new opposi. tion in the town. However, the father sued tho son, andjhe son filed his estate. During his remarks in opposition, to the motion, Mr. M'Nab said that the business never yielded the son less than .£6 per week, and that that was ample for a professional man to live on in Blenheim, where there were "no Governor's receptions," and "a man did not need to dress like the Queen of Sheba." The Court reserved, decision.
