"My oommittee," said the writer, "have considered the matter, but are unable to relax the rules for iplayers of a maturer age than 17. Here tjie reinstatement of youths under 17 has Been found in certain districts to be helpful in controverting the machinations of Northern Union emissaries. Each case, however, hns to bo very carefully judged on its own. merits, and it is not obligatory for your union either to adopt or mako trial of it." "In Committee, Gentlemen!" The letter and a motion bearing on it were discussed in committee, and .were then handed to the press in such form as the committee desired to make public. The resolution read:—"That a copy of the letter bo sent to all unions, with a lottef pointing out that only this committee has power to' exercise the discretion, and that this discretion will only be exercised in very exceptional cases." The supplied report intimated that this motion had been carried. Daily "Pay" in California. The South Canterbury Union wrote expressing itself as being in favour of members of the All Black team to tour America being paid out-of-pocket expenses while on tour. In connection with the •same matter the Wanganui Union forwarded the following resolution:—"This union is .not in favour of a fixed sum per day as an individual payment, but would' favour the treasurer's budget providing for all reasonable incidentals comiccted with the team." The chairman remarked that the resolution from Wanganui expressed the sentiments of this committee. CHOOSING EEPRESENTATIVES. The weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington Football Association was held last evening, Mr. J. B. Paton presiding. A request from the Brooklyn United Club that their match, against Thistle next Saturday be transferred from Wakefield Park to the Basin Reserve was declined. Considerable discussion took place concerning the question of accepting Auckland's challenge for tho Brown Shield, and at times there were some lively interludes between members of tho committee. Judging by the remarks passed by certain committeemen, the holding of the Brown Shield is not a remunerative proposition for the Wellington Management Committee. As an outcome of the discussion several motions and amendments were put and lost. Eventually, Mr. Wells moved to the effect that, provided Wellington retains the shield after the matches with Canterbury and Manawatu, Auckland's challenge bo accepted. If the shield is not retained, however, it was decided to ask Auckland to visit Wellington, and take half the net gate. This motion was carried by five voltes to four. writer also asked for a donation of £o towards expenses—lt was decided not to accedc to the request. It was decided to write to the New Zealand Referees' Association, asking that future appointments of referees- for Blown Shield matches be made in ample time for the W.F.A. to object to the appointments if it is found necessary. In view of the fact that Corinthians' appeal will not bo settled before Saturday, it was decided that Y.M.C'.A. play Swifts on Wakefield Park No. 3. The SwiftsY.M.C.A. fixture had been stopped at half-time on a previous Saturday.—lt was decided that next Saturday would be a suitable date on which to Te-play the match. Some discussion ensued over the question of choosing AVellington's team to defend the Brown Shield against Canterbury, on August 2. Some members thought that the team and reserves should bo picked after next Saturday's games. Others held the opinion that a certain number of men should be asked to go into training. It was also said that a representative trial match should be played. It was eventually decided, on the casting vote of the chairman, that the selectors be instructed to choose fourteen players to go into training at once. SATURDAY'S FIXTURES.
