"LABOUR IN VAIN." Settlers at Coonoor, in the Pahiatua County, seem to be much- dissatisfied with their mail ■ service. ' 3.—No. We aro thirty miles from a railway, and the roads in this part of tho Pahiatua County have been a scandal for years. ■I—No. Wo have a tri-weekly mail only, and the outward mail takes two days to go thirty miles. . I have written to Ministers, and have interviewed officials. Mr. Moore has also been on tho 'job. It is like trying to wash a .nigger white. It is labour in vain. '7.—No. There is not enough co-opera-tion in buying and selling. ll.—ln our case, roads. I trust when the New Counties Act is before Parliament a clause will bo inserted in tho Act to compel local bodies to do their duty, or provide that the Government shall do the work, and charge tho local body concerned with tho cost.
