VICTORIA COLLEGE.
A meeting of tho Victoria Collogo Council was held last night. Mr. H. H. Ostlor presided, arid there vroro also present: Sir Robert Stout, Rev W. A. Evans, Dr. C. I'. Knight, Messrs. R. M'Nab, J. W. G. Aitkeii, A. I?. Atkinson, T. R. Fleming, R, M'Cnllmn, and W. Ferguson. Tho Finance and General Purposes Committee reported that tho Inspector-Gcneral of Schools had written that he hoped to bo able to reply 011 the question of Government subsidy on donations to colleges at an early date. Accounts amounting to -C 939 4s. 2d. wero passed for payment. The chairman reported that the deputation which waited 011 the Government with reference to amendments to the Collego Act, had received a sympathetic lienring. All tile matters authorised by the council had been placed before the Hon. Mr. Allen, who led them to understand he would give practically in every respect what ihey had asked. Sir Hubert Stout: Did you tell him the council were not unanimous on sonio of your rc'iuests? Mr. Ostler: Yes. T tnld him that (lie majority of the council were of the opinion that tho amendments to the Act wcro ncccssary.
