Morrow Saunders, Wm. iHenry Owens, Richard Tyrell, and Henry Lloyd Davies were charged that at Onehunga they forced . certain names to documents purporting to ba receipts for wages, with intent that tho Union Steam Ship-Company should act on them as genuine. Accused' were remanded, till next Wednesday, each being bailed in one surety of £200. Tho four men are servants of thte Union Steam Ship Company, employed at Onehunga, Saunders being the local manager at the port, and the others engaged in minor positions. The allegation is that tho four men conspired together to obtain money • from the company by signing on the wages ( sheets fictitious names and the iiames of men who were not,- during,the period covered by the respective wages sheets, .working for the company. It is probable that altogether there will be eight or nine charges covering the amount of about . £300 and going back for a period of eighteen months. MERCHANTS' CIRCULAR. . Corry and Co., Blenheim, a, claim for £101 refund on a ship-' luent of chaff alleged to bo not according to sample, Mr. Florance, S.M., held that a. trado circular issued by produce merchants and exporters of Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, upon which- the plaintiff relied, was not confirmed ill practice among merchants at this port, and did not bind the plaintiff. It was in direct breach of the statute against monopolies, and ivas therefore unlawful if the effect was to govern prices of commodities such as chaff. It is -reported on good authority that the Natives have practically agTeed to sell tho Awaroa-Totara Block to the Government. The land has an area of 17,000 acres, and is situated near Waikari.
