OIL RUMOURS
[ GUARDED REPLY BY THE PRIME MINISTER. Mr. George Terrell, M.P., in the House of Commons, on Juno 4, asked tho Prime Minister whether ho had been informed by any past or present members of the Government, and, if any. which, that they are or have been directly or indirectly interested in auv nil companies or concerns which hold, or have tendered for, contracts for the supply of oil for the Navy. Mr. Asquith: It is no part of my duty to inform myself, or the duty of my colleagues to inform me, of tho private investments of members of the Government. It is tho duty of overy Minister who.has to adviso or talio action at any stage in regard to o oontract affecting tho public service, if lie has any pecuniary interest, direct or indirect, in its subjectmatter, to disclose the fact spontaneously and at once. I have no reason to doubt .that this du|7 ha* boen and will bo adequately discharged.
