VALLANCE COOK MISSION.
A fairly 'large crowd attended Inst night at Wesley Church, Taranaki Street, ivhere the Rev. Mr. Vallance Cool; is conducting mission services. Prior lo the general service a prayer meeting was held in the adjacent hall. A feature of'the services is the hymn-singing by tho United Choir (under the oonductorship of Mr. P. C. Cutforth) and the coneregation. Tho Itev. Vallanec Cook based his address 011 Matthew IX, 9: "And as Jesus passed forth front thence He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the receipt of custom and lie «oith unto him follow Me. And 110 arose and followed Him." Conversion, which was the subject of the remarks, was described lyy the missioner from two standpoints. Its human side— a'turning from self .unto God, from sin 1111(0 holihcis—and its spiritual side, which had to do with tho work of Christ's grace in the soul, had both to be considered.' Conversion, however, meant not only a. turning to God, but a complete aversion to sin, and a desire to accept Christ as a personal Saviour, Master and King. God who put such a desire into the soul of anyone would not with-hold the graco necessary for its fulfilment. The missioner, therefore, invited those present to stand up and makt a declaration for Jesus Christ—just stand up and sit down again. Several responded and a number assembled for prayer subsequently. To-night tjie services will be continued and to-morrow night there will be a public demonstration in tho shape of a procession from John Street to the city.
