MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
ESCAPE FROM A HOME. FOUND THE WORK TOO HARD. (Before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.) May Gibbous pleaded guiltv to a charge of escaping from the Salvation Army Home. When asked by his Worship whether she had anything to say sho replied: "Well, your Worship, v.'e get up at (i a.m. and start work in the wash-house at 6.30 a.m., and then wo have breakfast at 7 a.m." His Worship: Oh, X don't want to go into the inside working of tho homo. Accused: But your Worship it is certainly no place to send a woman. Tho work is too hard. His, Worship sentenced accused to two months' imprisonment. OTHER POLICE CASES. Two charges of theft of overcoats were preferred against Patrick Ryan (who pleaded not guilty) at the Magistrate's Court, before Mr. W. G. Riddell. S.M., yesterday. His Worship fined accused 40s. on each charge and ordered him to payi costs amounting to lGs., in default 14 days' imprisonment. For disorderly behaviour John Gibson was fined .£3, in default three days' im'prisonraent. John Armstrong, Edward Cassidy, and Thomas Fogg were each fined 10s. for insobriety. Seven first offenders were leniently dealt with. Adolf Oleschewsky and Robert Murray were jointly charged with using threatening behaviour in Courtenay Place. Thev were fined 20s. each.
