BULLDOG & HIS GUARDIAN.
LIVELY STREET SCENE. Ho was a bulldog, told, with truo bulldog nonchalance,. ho was rolling along at tlio heels of ft littlo girl through the shopping throng in Cuba ■Street yesterday afternoon. A bargain sale window attracted tho girl, and in Ihe ensuing wait the placid-laced bulldog attracted a small boy, who was trundling along a bic.vclo rim. The. boy was ultii matoty satisfied when ho had so far roused tho bulldog that the animal gripped the hoop. Then (ho littlo girl, having satis, fied hor curiosity as to the bargains displayed, desired to move along.' The bulldog was agreeable, but ho also wanted ■to tako the now firmly-gripped hoop with him. And then the tug-cf-war commenced, with a lusty crying accompauiniont from botli the small uoy and the little girl. Bulldogs are, by their fanciers, always given certificates of gentleness of temper., —'till tlicy arc roused. With tho bull-* dog's ferocity of countenance, tho ordin-, ary ]»rson regards this testimonial with' suspicion, and consequently . yesterday thero were fow who caned to separate tho bulldog and the hoop. At last a man, with more hardihood than his fellows, arrived on tho scene, and, seizing tho hoop, ho succeeded bv numerous twistings in nroaking tho (lojj's grip. Having done so, ho merrily skipped out of tho way, olid the dog was willing to follow his guardian for a few steps,. But for the day ho, had ap-.' parently lost the poncefulness of dis- • position which fanciers ascribo to tho At tho corner of Ghuzneo and Cuba Strcots a lad was standing with a trolly full of bottles, over which a sack was thrown. The bulldog bounded forward, and soized tho sack; having vigorously shaken this,, ho made an attack on the bottlesjjf tucli force that tlio lad was beating a'T'etroat >whon the'dog flew at tile wheels of tho trolly. Tho sack was again thrown to him for distraction; but by now he was properly combative. Among the crowd n girl becamo too venturesome, and at her tho dog flow, and it required the efforts of several men to beat him off. Way down the street two other children were standing, and for these tho dog made, with the crowd in full pursuit. The dog arrived first, but had 110 opportunity to more than frighten (he youngsters, before an avalanche of now furious men fell upon him, and ho was taken into custody. What to do with the excited animal was the question . for his captors. Tho little girl, between sobs, told the owner's name, and ,a bodyguard of men then took their canine prisoner away, a bitterly-distressed littlo damsel following in their wake.
