A SUGGESTED APPOINTMENT.

The statement has been made, unofficially, that Mr. J. G. Wilson, president of the Farmers' Union, will probably be appointed president of the new Board of Agriculture proposed to be set up by the Massky Government. We trust that this statement will be confirmed in due course by the Prime Minister. No better qualified person for the position could be found within tho Dominion, and no one out of it whose services could be secured would be likely to prove more successful in the office. It is. generally recognised that Mr. Wilson has done a great deal for the farmer and for the farming industry, but even those who give him most credit probably do not fully realise how great his work has really been. There has been no more stimulating influence in recent years amongst the farming community of New Zealand than the president of the Farmers' Union. Year in and year out he has devoted his time and his energies to preaching tho necessity for the uplifting of our farming methods to a higher and more scientific level. At each annual gathering of the representatives of tho farming interests he has, in his able and informative opening address, clearly pointed the way to some fresh advanco beneficial to the primary producers of the country, and ho has won and retained the confidence of the great body of farmers as probably no one else in the country could have done. We do not know whether Mr. Wilson's services will be available for the new office, but if they are the Government is very fortunate. His acceptance would be a guarantee that tho new board would carry with it the confidence of the whole farming community.
