A FEATHERSTON VIEW.
TRAIN THE RISING GENERATION. Mr. W. Barton, of Featherston, writes as follows :— I—No training for life on the farm is given in the schools. 2—Yes. Returns "from products satisfactory. 3—Railway service very uncertain and dilatory. Roads in back-blocks bad. The Central Government taxes aro so heavy that road rates cannot be made much heavier than they are, otherwise roads could be greatly improved by the people in tho locality. 4—Yes, postal and telcphono services are satisfactory, but at considerable cost, so for as telephones aro concerned. There must be a lot of waste in tho tolephono management.' s—Yes. The shows are of direct benefit. G—Yes. Some of the work of the Department of Agriculture is of direct benefit. I should think large sums of money are wasted, and, in some cases, inspectors aro chosen from tho wrong class of men. 7—No organisation. B—Very few privato landowners. Government renters are doing well, and selling out at very largo profits. o—Very little trained labour available, and having to employ th« incompetent casual, leads to much waste of timsand farm products. 10 —So far as I know, they aro satisfactory. 11—Training of the rising generation for working on the land, and enabling them to obtain sufficient knowledge to make farm work interesting, nnd to givo' them ambition to better their position.
