To introduce his subject, tho lecturer .read an extract from a letter, commenting favourably upon the work of the French Club in Wellington. He laid before his hearers a great body of information of a highly instructive.: nature. He referred to tho study of Latin'throughout the European ' Universities as an active agent to the formation' of' character, and described the fadlty methods:of' teaching, French as a dead ■ language, which obtain in many schools and colleges in England. Mr. Hudson proposed a hearty rote of thanks to Professor Zedlit.z for tho. intellectual- " treat he. had given the members. The vote of thanks was carried' unanimously.
