(From Our Speolal CorresDondent.) « ; ' ' ' A fair audience assembled at Jones's Hall, Petone, last evening, to hear tho debato on the Bible-in-schools between the Petone Debating Society and St. Augustine's Debating Club. Councillor Anderson intends to move at tho next meeting of tho Petono Borough Council: "That tho motions accepting'tlio resignation of Councillor Wright from tho position of delegate to Hntt Park Committee, and tho appointment of tho Mayor to fill tho position ho rescinded. At tlio special meeting of tho council last Tuesday, tlio mover questioned the legality of tho meeting, as two clear days' notice had not quite lieen given each councillor. On Thursday evening there was a good crowd of skaters and onlookers at the Hntt Rink. The ICilbirnio Hockey representatives journeyed oiit to play a gamo with tho Hutt Eink team, which resulted in a win for the Hutt boys by ono goal to nil, after a good and fast game. The third heat for tlio cup was also got off, the ICilbirnio representatives being placed first and second. After the skating was over, the visitors were entertained to a smoke concert. A lengtliy toast list was honoured, and items wore rendered by Messrs. W. Sharon,' AVilliam Wishen, and C. H. Burridgo. This afternoon tho brass band will bo in attendance at tho rink. Tho following appears in "The Trigg Minor Deanery Magazine":—'"Tho Rector, must beg that no lady who reads this paragraph will again present herself at the altar in a hat resembling a parasol, or in that other and even more repulsive shape which resembles a beehive or an inverted largo and shallow basin." Tho heat was greater iii London than in any May for twelve years. A motorbus driver, who was on tho point of collapsing from tho heat in the Strand, had the presence of miiul to apply tho brakes before he fell unconscious across tlio steering wheel, thus averting what might havo been a serious accident. j
