THE DIAMOND SCULLS.
CRITICISM OF M'VILLY. THE WINNER'S REPLY. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, July 10. Replying to the criticism of tho English sporting press, M'Villy denies being guilty of any unsportsmanlike action in tlie race for tho Diamond Sculls, which ho won. lis explains that in order to avoid tho booms at Henley, he took tho centre of tho stream. He only took Pink's water when he had the race well in hand. If, he adds, an Englishman had won an important racojiu Australia lie would have received very different treatment.
WRANGLE OVER ENTRIES. M?VTT,T.Y CANCELS HIS FIXTURES. London, July 10. There is much comment'becauso M'Villy (the I'asmanian sculler) was not allowed to enter for tho Wingiicld Sculls on tho ground that he had not been born in- tho United Kingdom, though Howell [a Tasmanian) won the AVinglicld Sculls m 1898, Kelly (si Tasmanian) in 1903, and Sailer (also a Tasmanian) was, third in yesterday's race. The committee arguo that Kelly and Sailer learned thoir sculling in England. ' „ M'Villy admits that the AVingfield Gommitteo was justified by tho rules, m refusing his entry, but says its action was inconsistent with previous exceptions. Ho states that ho has cancelled his season s engagements, and will not tow in Lugland again. It is understood that Sailer s entry was justified, because lie'is a British offioor, and was nominated by London rowing clubs. 1
