\ i • - ' ARRANGEMENTS TO DATE. Since the inaugural meeting, at wliieli his Excellency tno Uovernor presided, u great amount 01 work lias been done ill regard to tho ioriliation 01 historical groups for the pageant to be helu in -"Newtown l'ark on October lis and Zi. Dr. May, Air. JNicliolls, and iur. Morris Fox, the Committee of Historians, liavo drawn up a connected scries ot Historical epochs and episodes of .the history of Ureal Britain, and liavd cast characters to tho number of forty for each, group. Mr. Hamilton, of the Dominion Museum, has done similar work for the history of New Zealand. Many of tho groups have' already been taken up, and the conveners,' with tbeir assistants and costumiers, are busy planning out and making costumes. Tne committeo has undertaken to bear tho cost of cabling for any costumes required from abroad, and it is intended to ask tho Minister for Customs to return any duty on the costumes being sent back alter tho Pageant is over. Tho great bulk of the costumes, however, will be made locally. Tho following groups Have been taken up, tho names against them being those of tho responsible conveners:—Roman Invasion of Britain —The Landing t of Julihs Caesar—Mr. and Mrs. Atkins, Paulinus and Boadicoa—Mr. Win. Siinm. King Arthur and tho Knights of the Hound Tablo—Mrs. Rankine Brown. King Alfred—lntroduction of, tho Arts and Industries into Britain—Mi - . W. S. La 'l'robo and Technical School. King John Siguing the Magna Charta —Mr. Dunbar Sloane. Tho Investiture of tho First Prince of Wales—Mrs. J. Hislop. Tho Founding of tho Order of tho Garter Mrs. J. Hannah. Richard 11, Watt lylor, and tho Peasant Revolt —Mr. IJ. H. ltayward. Queen Elizabeth Knighting Sir Walter Raleigh-Mrs. S. Itirkcaldio. George 111., Powder and Patch PeriodMrs. A. L. Herdnian. Early Victorian Group—Miss MacLcan and (jirls High School. • mi , New Zealand groups are:-The lirst Interview of Captain Cook AVitli tho Maoris; Tho Signing of tho Treaty at Waitangi, The Early Settlement ol Port Nicholson, Modern Wellington. In addition to these groups, others aro under consideration by various mdiudunls and societies. The whole of the Pageant will bo under the direction of Mr. Gerald M. Silver who ■organised tho Shakespearean Pageant at Hastings. Mr. Silver will meet the committeo and those interested on Tuesday night. „ . It has been decided that tho Pageant will bo partly processional and tableaux combined. _______
