ASSOCIATION.

' -—:—9 (Bt Centee-Half.) DISGRUNTLED CORINTHIANS, Taranaki and Wellington. This afternoon Wellington representatives will be called upon to meet a challenge by Taranaki for the Brown Shield. If reports speak truly, the men from the cheese and batter province ara a solid lot, and will take some boating. Their combination is also described as being far from inferior. Indications point to the game being a particularly fast one, and just as interesting as the now famous Otago-Welling-ton match which was played three weeks ago to-day. ■ A Good Move. It was mentioned at this week's meeting of tho Management Committee that the playing area on the Basin 'Reserve had been moved about eight yards further ,out, from the stand side of the ground. This is an excellent idea, as it will give those who occupy seats on the lower stond an opportunity of seeing the whole field of play without having- to stand up. Wellington Team Altered. Wellington's team is not the same as that which played' against Otago. There have been three changes. Two wero made by the selectors, and one has been made on account of the fact that E. Cross (Wellington's riprht back) is unable to play. It is regrettable that Cross will be absent, because he and Parsons play well together. But after all, in Fauvell, the St. John's man, who has taken the place of Cross, Parsons has a club mate with whom ho has been playing all the season. The pair should understand eacli other by now. So why worry? At the mandate of the selectors, Whittington (Y.M.C.A.) has replaced Roberts at outside right, and C. O'Shea has' replaced Skinner at inside left. Congratulations are in order to Whittington on obtaining representative honours this season. Ho is fast and tricky, and, after Roberts, is worth his'place. Roberts had to be replaced this Saturday, however, on account of tho recent Corinthian trouble. It is pleasing to note that tho selectors have realised that Barnett, the clever little outside left, was wasted against Otago on account of his partner's play. Tho selectors have mad© a wise move in replacing Skinner by C. O'Shea. The latter player is an older man and makes better openings than Skinner. With O'Shea and Barnett working well together, wo should see some pretty football on tho left wing to-day. The Halves and the "Goalie." It will be seen that Wellington has the same half-lino as played against Otago. All that can be said to Rickerby is that he should "buck up" this time and show what he is capable of doing. Roots, too, will have to play a much better game today than ho did against Otago. If not, tho selectors (not forgetting the trainer) will bo asking him somo questions. This is Belnamie's second Brown Shield game. Let us hope' that the goalkeeper has profited by the match against Otago, and that ho will give of his test to-day. Belhamio has a future before him as a goalkeeper. Where. 'is Vessey? "Vessey should have been in that forward line," is a remark one heard On all sides when tho personnel of Wellington's team was given' forth by the selectors. "Centre-Half" ■ agrees with this entirely. Thero is no doubt that "Charlie" Vessey would have been tho right man in the right plage at either contro forward or inside right. All of us, of course, hope that a crowd as large, if not larger, than that which was present at the Ba9in Reserve during the Wellington-Otago match will watch the game to-day. And may we have as exciting football, and just as clean a game;' as was played three weeks ago. Centre-Half" wishes Wellington the best of luck/bttt may the best team win. Those Corinthians. After long sittings and the taking of much evidence, tho Management Committee of the W.F.A. have passed sentence on the guilty ones concerned in the recent Basin Reserve episode. At. the outlet let it be said that all fair-minded footballers and enthusiasts have thought well of the W.F.A. regarding tho linn stand they have taken, and it is generally considered that the sentencrs passed oil the various Corinthian players were justified. Evidently, however, Corinthians do not hold this view, and the result is 'that they have asked the committe? to reconsider the whole case, nnd, failing that, that an DDeaJ bnard uu. Naturallv and

rightly too, the Management Committee* refused to reconsider the case, but, under rule 10, had no option but to accede to Corinthians' request Hint an appeal board be set up. Three old "Soccer" enthusiasts have been appointed au appeal board, viz., .Messrs. F. J. Cou.rtenay, A. J. Abbott, and W. Mouckton, and three better men could not havo been appointed. It is expected that tho C-Uwill be heard towards tho latter end of next week or the beginning of tho week after. As tho matter is now sub judiw, comment is withheld. Ropes Round the Basin. In view of the fact that # increasing crowds are visiting the Basin lieserve Snturdav after Saturday, it is high time that something was done to keep spectators back from tho lines, as wall as off the field of play. Mr. Youman had something to say on this matter at the Association meeting last Wednesday evening, and the secretary replied that, arrangements were being made to have iron standards, with ropes running through them, placed all round the field of play. This is a good idea, and will bo much appreciated by spectators, players, linesmen, and referees alike.'
