MEMBERS' QUERIES.

Mr. T. H. Davey, member for Christchurch Bast, has given notice to ask tho Postmaster-General whether ho has considered the advisability of establishing in the Post Oflico Savings Bank a system whereby depositors could operate on their accounts, whether interest-bearing or not, by issuing cheques such as are used by ether banks. Mr. G. V. Pearce (Patea) has given notice to ask the Government whether they will introduce a clause in the Counties Act to allow county councils to establish a special accident insurance fund, as it had been found that in practice counties paid more than double tho amount of claims made against them. _ Mr. D. H. Guthrie is to ask the Minister for Lands whether he will consider tho advisability of handing over to tho county councils or other local governing bodies the custody aud control of all reserves within their boundaries not already vested in any governing board, to bo administered for tho use and benefit of the local residents? There aro at present numbers of these reserves, ho says, that are being damaged from want of proper local control or are lying waste. . Dr. A. K. Newman .(Wellington East) is suggesting to tho Government that they take stops to stop tho indiscriminate slaughter of oppossums. Mr. A'. H. Hindmarsh (Wellington South) has given notice to ask tho Minister for Education whether he will authorise a grant of a sufficient sum to tho Wellington Education Board for tho erection of a school at Berhampore. Mr. T. M. Wilford (Hutt) is asking the Prime Minister whether he will appoint experts to investigate and report on tho alternative routes for a noT railway lino between Wellington and tlio Wairarapa, and whether lie will direct that special attention be given to tho route to Wairarapa via Wainui-o-mata.

At a meeting of Government members which was held yesterday some discussion took place on the subject' of electoral reform. It is understood that the meeting was purely deliberative in character.
