(By Telegraph—Press Association.) « PRISONER WALKS OFF. Auckland, July 10. A young prisoner, named Joseph .Thomas Christie, escaped from Ht. Edeu Gaol this afternoon. Ho was engaged with, other prisoners outside the gaol, when suddenly ho walked away. A warder, who interrogated ,him, was told that lie was carrying a message lo another warder. Hansen, a European, was charged with trespassing on Betsy Island in pursuit of mutton birds. The defence was that ho only acted as cook for two Natives, who captured six thousand birds.
