Councillol M. W. Welt.li will represent the Hutt County Council at the New Zealand Counties' Association Conference.
Under district orders the Hutt -and Petone Territorial Companies are to be amalgamated into 011 c company, and transferred to the the Wellington .Rides. Mr. J. W. Cudby (Inspector of Works for Hutt County Council) expresses satisfaction at the way In which the new roadgrader is working. Lately, it was tried on a rough portion of the Paraparaumu-. Paekakariki fioad, and effectively graded 33 chains in three hours, at a cost of less than sd. per chain, as compared with 2s. fid. per chain if the"work had been done by manual labour. The Hutt County Council has decided to instruct their solicitors (Messrs. Brandon and Hislop) to frame a by-law prohibiting motor-car tests on its roads without the council's permission, and giving power to regulate the speed of motors. The committee set up to raise funds for tlie purchase of a motor fire-vehicle lor. liOwer Hutt, reports that it has about .£55 in hand, and some JMS promised. Mr. Babington, proprietor of the Crown Pictures, has promised to gifo a benefit entertainment for this fund. The Hutt Valley Poultry Society does not intend to hold its annual show this veal', the cause assigned being lack of support. Probably the bad weather that has marked the occasion of tho society's last two displays accounts in some measure for the poor attendances.
