DUNTROON CADETS.

THE EXAMINATION CONDITIONS. ■ The Minister for Dofenco (Uio Hon. James Allen) was asked by Mr. Isitt In tho House of Representatives yesterday whether he was aware that Christ's Collego and several other schools were offering special tuition for pupils desiring to pass the test examinations qualifying for training in tho Duntroon Militarj College; and, in view ot that fact, would ho take steps to supply free preparatory training to any Territorial passing such an examination ns a public-school education rendered possible!' There wa.s a danger, if the Government fails lo make 6uch provision, Mr. Isitt stated, that commissions in tho Territorial Force would becomo tho monopoly of tho sons of wealthy men. Tho Hon. James Allen replied: "Tho arrangements made by any college regarding special tuition in connection with preparation for examinations are its own concern. The qualifying examination for admission to Duntroon -Military College is open to public competition on tho broadest possible conditions, to sons of rich and poor alike. The examination in (iiiestion is not a very difficult one, ami it is not tho experience of education authorities in New Zealand that success in examinations open to public competition has ever been tho inunopoly of tho wealthy. Under the circumstances tho stops suggested arc considered unnecessary."
