"REFRESHER" CAMP.
- AT PALMERSTON NORTH. Colonel E. S. Heard. Commanding tlii New Zealand Forces, returned to Wellington by the Main Trunk express yesterday from Palmerston North. Colonel Heard inspected tho refresher camp which has just begun on tho Palmerston Show Grounds. The camp is for the benefit of the officers of the officer* and N.C.O.'s of tho R.N.Z.A., and for Territorial officers and N.C.O's. _ It is, therefore, a mixed eainp, containing an instructional battery, instructional souadron, and an instruction battalion, .it present there are about 200 men of iTI ranks in camp, although not under canvas, as they are housed in the various building on the show ground. The officers of tile Staff Corns will attend in two batches, each undergoing three weeks' instruction. The camp will last for six week". Territorial officers may remain for tho whole six weeks if they so choose, but if they go at all they must rematu for one week. It is anticipated that close upon 800 men will pass through a coursa during tho six weeks the camp will l>o in progress. Foster; musketry instructor, Lieut. Rose. Instructional Field Artillery Battery? Commander, Major Maidlow; 'instructors Captains Smythe and Staiulish. . Instructional Battalion: Commander, Major Tomporley; adjutant, Captain Aitchlcy-Salnionson; company commanders, Captain Monro CA Company), Contain Melville (B ■ Company). Captain Brown (C Conmany). musketry instructors, Sergcant-Tns., Purdon (A Company). Cap. tain Wallingford (B Company), Lieut. Henderson (C Company). Cnmp Instructional Battalion; A Company comprises .infantry "details drawn from Otago military district; B from Auckland; and C from Christclmrch. The infantry details from the Wellington military district will lid divided amongst thesa threo companies.
