SUMMARY AND FORECAST. Present indications arc for a further decrease in barometric pressure with, etrons' northerly winds changing by west to south after from 24 to 36 hours. Cloudy and unsettled weather with rain is probablo generally. The present disturbance is travelling with unusual rapidity, and was not cxpected to pass until about Friday night. _ The barometer has fallen considerably in the Eouth for a westerly low-pressure area, which is now enveloping the South Island. The northern districts have experienced cool and changeable weather with moderate and variable winds, but moderate to strong northerlics prevail elsewhere. D. 0. BATES.
