SPECIAL NOTICES. | rjlO THE MEMBERS OF THE .MANAWATU A. AND P. ASSOCIATIONS. ELECTION OF HONORARY TREASURER. Palmeiston North, July 2nd, 1913. Dear Sir,—At the request of a larci? majority of the Committee of th© A. and F. Association, I beg to offer myself as a candidate for the office of Hon. Treasurer of the Association for the ensuing year. As you will, doubtless, have noticed my nomination was signed by seventeen, mothers of the Committee. Of the 40 members of the Committee 32 have promised me their support, and have urged the advisablenass ot my offering my services for the olfice. In view of the strong representations made, I deem it to bo my duty to accede to the wishes of those gentlemen who have approached me, and, consequently, solicit the favour of your support at the forthcoming election. While I recognise that the gentleman who lias held the office for a number of years has rendered valuable services to the Association, yet I would respectfully urge that a time comes in the existence of all institutions whon a ohange would not necessarily be to its disadvantage; but, on the contrary, would result in the introduction of newer ideas making for progress and advancement. And I feel confident that in the event of my being elected to the office of Hon. Treasurer I could be of service in this direction. Though I have not had the honour of holding office in this Association, I have, during my many years' residence in Pairaerston, taken a keen interest .in its welfare and progress; and while it has not been my privilege to take an active part in its internal management, movements for the advancement of the Association have always had my sympathy and support. I respectfully submit that my lengthy experience as a business man gives me the requisite knowledge of financial matters, and I am ■ confident, if elected to the position, my qualifications in this respect would justify my appointment. I maintain that any member of the Association is justified in offering his services for any office, whether it has been held for a lengthy period or not by any one gentleman. Lengthy service surely is not a valid reason why anyone other than' the person who has held the position should be debarred from seeking election to an office. If this were admitted. as a principle it is conceivablc that it would endanger the welfare of an institution thus affected. In conclusion, I desire >to point out that I am contesting the position at tho request of a large section of the Committee, who have assured me of their support, and these influential gentlemen would not have requested me to offer my services if my election were likely to endanger the welfare of tho Association; on the contrary, thoy must be confident that my election would be beneficial. Under these circumstances. I respectfully solicit your assistance and vote at the forthcoming election. I remain, Dear Sir, Tours faithfully, A. E. BENNETT. P.S.—Please note that the voting papers must be in the hands of the secretary, Mr. W. T. Penny, by Saturday, 12th July, 1913.
